CROSS – CULTURAL FACILITATORS (Bi-Cultural Trainers)

IOM Oslo will recruit Cross Cultural Facilitators (CCF) with Somali, Afghani, Eritrean and Burmese cultural and language skills, who will provide pre-departure cultural orientation classes to quota refugees in their native languages at refugee camps in their respective transit countries. The positions are part time engagements, on average 1 to 2 months per year. 

International Organization for Migration (IOM) is an intergovernmental organization with 146 member states, over 440 field offices in more than a hundred countries and with approximately 7300 operational staff. IOM assists governments in migration management issues.

IOM Oslo was opened in 2002 and is currently engaged in various projects targeting different categories of migrants including refugees, labour migrants, victims of human trafficking, unsuccessful asylum seekers and migrants in irregular situation.  Further information about the programme is available at www.iom.no.

The duties and responsibilities of a CCF include:

  • Provide pre-departure cultural orientation classes to Norway bound United Nations quota refugees in the transit countries;
  • Provide refugee country and culture information at seminars organized by receiving municipalities,
  • Assist to produce refugee cultural profile handouts for refugee workers

The successful candidate must have good knowledge of Norwegian life and society through experience, and relevant cultural and linguistic background from the target refugee nationalities. Fluent command of Norwegian and English is required and knowledge of the native languages of the target groups. Good communication and presentation skills and being capable to work in a multi-cultural environment. Personal refugee background or experience with working with refugees in Norwegian municipality, with the introduction program and other integration activities will be considered as advantages. Teaching experience is an asset.
